just use a two way splitter from the main line in then split the tv's off the second leg, i have done terrible things to cable modems at my old place, at the end of a run, 300+ft to the house from the poll, then another ~200ft to the modem through a few splitters amps and barrel connections, it was pretty jank, but it worked just fine. my new place i am ~ 20ft away from the plant extension and they had to degrade my signal strenght it all just depends on how your area is setup but you can always request a site survey.

I have Comcast for internet, phone, and HD cable tv. There is a big fat coax that comes from the pole to the junction box on the house. From there, it enters a splitter which is labeled as a digital splitter, whatever that means. As far as I know, it is a passive device. The label on the splitter says it works from 5 - 1002 MHz. This was installed by Comcast. From there, there are three output taps labeled as follows:

-3.5 db - This drives the cable modem, which also includes 4 phone line jacks, of which I'm using 3.
-7 db - This drives one CATV tuner / DVR.
-7 db - This drives the other CATV tuner / DVR.

As far as I know, there are no active amplifiers on or in the house. I don't know what's on the pole or nearby otherwise. All the equipment is happy and works well.

Sincerely,

Ron
