I think the previous mac os was snow leopard...<BR>

Sounds like the os is not closing-out files properly on shutdown. Does it do this only after running the VM or w/o running the VM?<BR>

Everything is up to date. Thing is, I'm running Lion now, but when I
had the other drive issues, it was the previous 'large cat' version.
This is quite odd. I agree, does not appear to be a drive issue to me
either.
