<p>Late this past week Comcast suffered a catastrophic failure. Businesses around the southeast went out entirely, and residential customers suffered and are suffering because hardware was reallocated.</p>
<p>Services should reach normal again in a few days to a week, from what I am told.</p>

There is an initial burst (turbo mode) on Comcast and many other ISP's<br>
for the first ??? kb/mb/gb. It is very noticible when doing command<br>
line FTP (with hash) or any other transfer with a real speed indicator.<br>
Many speed indicators are "softened"..<br>
