Another way of updating those config files is to enter the
command<br>
dispatch-conf after you do an emerge. That will run through
every config<br>
file to be updated and show you what would be changed: a line
starting with<br>
a plus sign would be added to the existing file, and one
starting with a<br>
minus sign would be deleted from it. You can then decide
whether to use<br>
the new file or "zap" (delete) it.<br>
<br>
Dispatch-conf comes in handy if you have your CONFIG_PROTECT
in make.conf<br>
set to "/etc", which is what I have on my system.<br>

I've always used etc-update, merges trivial config files
automagically, and allows you to merge only selected parts of
the updated .cfg0000*.<br>
