Another way of updating those config files is to enter the command dispatch-conf after you do an emerge. That will run through every config file to be updated and show you what would be changed: a line starting with a plus sign would be added to the existing file, and one starting with a minus sign would be deleted from it. You can then decide whether to use the new file or "zap" (delete) it.

Dispatch-conf comes in handy if you have your CONFIG_PROTECT in make.conf set to "/etc", which is what I have on my system.

-Lawrence

On Tue, Nov 22, 2011 at 11:34 AM, rhia <rhiannen@atlantacon.org> wrote:
Pre-coffee, so hopefully coherent-ish enough.

Edit /etc/portage/package.keywords and add the line
=sys-devel/gettext-0.18.1.1-r3 ~x86

Edit /etc/portage/package.mask and add the line
=sys-devel/gettext-0.18.1.1-r3

For "Use eselect news to read news items" enter at the prompt:
eselect news read new
(Never know, it might actually be relevant to what you're doing.)

Then emerge sys-devel/gettext again
