<p>Re SDR: I know, I read about the GNU SDR a year or so ago and want one.</p>
<p>What we're getting is in its infancy as well. But the concepts are similar across the board. Imagine first responders being able to push back position reporting and status info and communicate with no 'backbone' by relaying through the mesh to unlink points. Then that POI gets consolidated to a 'common operating picture' of current dispositions, status, requirements. I could see similar systems developing for both military and ham radio since both deal with ad-hoc, no-infrastructure networks. As far as ham radios mission for disaster relief and civil support, this would be a great thing.</p>
