This post shows the wrinkles introduced by having an open source operating system on phones. Even though the OS is free, the handset manufacturer often wants to charge the carrier for the update. So, you often don't get feature upgrades until somebody pays. This makes it even more important to support the developers of custom ROM's like Cyanogen. They're the best weapon you've got against this crappy arrangement.<div>
