can't recall the exact search params (it may be a Linux journal article), but I saw a linux-based rig that used a epson scanner, some motors and a fair amount of cpu horsepower to pull film through a custom bracket on the scanner, scan in the strip (5+ frames at a time), use the holes in the strip to key in on the frames, isolate the frames digitally, generate a sequence of video frames and then stitch it all together as a mpeg.<br>

That's effectively what is done. The mechanisms for doing this will depend on the time and expense, but that's pretty much the only way to get analog to digital.<div><br></div><div>I believe high end restoration folks do something fancier where they take individual frames, "photograph" them then stitch those frames together to make a movie and put it on DVD, but that's a lot more effort intensive and requires some much more expensive equipment.<div>

So, I've got, probably 100+ old 8mm film of my Dad's I would like to<br>
