IBM has a data destruction .iso I've used a few times if you're looking for a heavy-lifting solution to totally destroy all bits on a disk. Sorry I don't have a like for it right now -- will see if I can find it. Otherwise couldn't you use Gparted for basic disk maintenance from a Live CD?
Darik's Boot and Nuke ("DBAN")
http://www.dban.org/
DBAN will not wipe sectors that have been reallocated however, Secure Erase will. This only works on IDE and SATA dirves.
