Or the use of IP phones as a 'desktop switch'<br><br>You can solve that problem from the core outward as previously suggested or what I think is more important, monitor those remote nodes so you know if/which/when one fails. I have all my printers and other network devices in Nagios and it works great. If you monitor those printers on the far side of the desktop switches, at least you'll know if they go down.
