<br>Were this to happen to one of my kids, they'd be the first ones to call what they did "dumb". The secret is in the parenting.<br><br>This was just plain ol' "dumb". If you're old enough to hold a learner's permit (and under some circumstances, a full driver's license), then you're old enough to watch where you're going. <br>

I'm sorry, I have to agree with the parents on this one. Knowingly<br>
leaving a manhole cover off without a barrier is unacceptable. We are<br>
all eager to condemn a pop-tart on a cellphone, but as the father of a<br>
1 & 2 year old I don't like the idea that there could be a > 2ft<br>
diameter hole in a sidewalk.<br>
