<font size="-1">One of the reasons for using a metal, grounded,
computer case is the shielding of EM radiation.<br>
Depending on what other electronic equipment is nearby, this may or may
not be a problem for you.<br>
I have found that some computers are egregious transmitters and you'll
hear the whistles<br>
as you tune up and down the dial on nearby radios. <br>
CRT images are sometimes warped on adjacent monitors. I haven't seen
any flat screen problems.<br>

We bought standard cases and then cut out new sides / top / front
panel out of clear plexiglass. All of our plexiglass panels are flat,
so if there was no way to attach it, we drilled and tapped holes in
the metal base case and clearance holes for the screws in the
plexiglass.
We also drilled holes in the plexiglass for airflow.
I don't remember any real issues, except that when you do need to take
off the covers, it is a lot screws. ie. Many more than just having
the original metal cover.
