I recently installed RedHat 6.2 on my Compaq Preasrio 1065, and everything
went pretty well. X is working well on the machine, and it even detects
my funky Megahertz combo modem/NIC PCMCIA card properly. However, I am
running into considerable difficulty getting it to play audio properly. I
know that it is some sort of ESS chipset onboard, and it seems to be
compatible with the soundblaster modules, but it is unable to play
standard mp3 files, complainint about no supported rates found. I know
it's 16-bit audio, and I'm positive it's stereo (I think it's an ESS 1788
chipset). Has anyone found a combination that allows you to use this
chipset? Alsa seems to work fine at 8bit 22.05khz stereo, but I know the
chipset does more than that.
