Actually yes I have seen this before... I just fixed this same problem with a
server here. My problem was in the hardware. I could download from the ftp
server at decent speeds but uploads would drop or go really really slow...
My problem was autonegotiation from nic to switch.... (I had them both locked
actually at 100F...the switch reported 100f so I thought all was well... I put
the nic back at auto and put the switch at auto and the switch auto'd to 100F
and wah-lah!... you may also have problems if one device is locked down and
and the other is on auto. (autonegotitation is a standardized protocol but as
with all standards there are extras companies can throw in and stuff they can
take out and stay within spec) the protocol itself however must be on on both
ends for communication to occur. so if it is locked on one end the other will
not autonegotiate. (It might say it auto'd to 100h or 10h but it didn't
actually set up a conversation to see what link speed and duplex was best. It
just went to it's default)
If you are sure you you are on autonegotiate on both ends, check the switch to
see what it reports the link speed/duplex is. If it auto'd to anything other
than full then you have some type of problem. A switch and a nic should
always go to 100F if they both support it. Alot of times even locking the two
at 100F after they failed to autonegotiate to 100F will cause more issues.
(which would be the original reason they auto'd to half duplex)
Hope this helps
