Considerable hardware requirements, but well worth it. Needs at least 64MB
to run one instance of vmware (NT4). The reason is simple...X uses around
16MBwith vmware running. Then you have to factor in the RAM given to the
other OS running in vmware. I have one server set up as follows:
PIII 500mhz
512 MB RAM
RAID 5 (3 9.1GB)
With X running I'm using 24MB of RAM. Then I start 3 instances of vmware
running NT Server. Each virtual server is given 96MB to itself. In this
configuration the performance is more than adequate for domain
control/exchange/fileserver for 125 users. The disk configuration doesn't
seem to matter so I wont get into that.
My laptop:
AMD K6 300mhz
64MB RAM
4.3 GB HDD
One instance of windows 98 is allowed 32 MB of RAM and performs better than
it did running alone on the laptop with all 64MB. So far I have been pleased
with it. Of course I'm just playing around...I can't see betting the farm on
it just yet.

Subject: [ale] what are the hardware requirements for VMware?
Just how much muscle does it take? I first saw it on a P3 with 128 ram.
