I'm still wrestling with ethereal. One of the problems I was having was
that the incoming frames properly listed my machines ip and the sending
machines name. But, there were no outgoing frames from my machine to
the other machine. All of the other frames that one might expect to be
outgoing frames had bizarre ip addresses as noted in a previous posting.
I then performed the same test from another machine. I received the
same number of frames, but this time, I did not get the wierd frames as
on the previous machine. As one might expect, all the other frames were
outgoing frames as properly indicated by the ip/names displayed.
Question is, what's going on on the first machine? It appears that the
outgoing frames info is somehow getting trashed. This machine is
running Mandrake 7, whereas the other is running a very much updated RH
5.2 (kernel 2.2.14 as well as other upgrades).
Anyone seen anything like this? I'm convinced that the data displayed
by ethereal on the first machine is someone getting corrupted.
