(Any recent version of) Linux should have no problem with this drive.
My home server is RH6.0 running on an old 486/DX-100 VLB with a 26GB HDD. As
per my standard, the /boot partition occupies the first 8MB (cylinders 1-2)
of the drive so there is no issue with booting beyond the 1024-cylinder
mark.
Linux will probably support the tape drive.
If you install SAMBA (www.samba.org), you can use the system as a server for
Windows networking and store the MDB (MS Access) database on the server. You
either need to run MS Access support to use that database format or you need
to convert the database to another format.
MySQL (www.mysql.org) has a Windows ODBC driver so that you can access MySQL
databases from Windows and WebMin (www.webmin.com) makes it easy to manage
MySQL databases. Unfortunately I failed in my attempt to convert some common
MS SQL databases over to MySQL database, primarily due to table naming
issues and unicode issues.

Thanks for all the info. I was just trying to figure out what we can do with
this machine. I have wordperfect for linux . I wish I could move the
database (MDB extension) to linux. I have a Colorado T3000 tape drive on
this machine. If linux can address it might allow network access to it . I
just want see if linux can properly format this 13gig drive. For some reason
98 won't.
As for why we justdon't get another machine, we are a nonprofit.
