I am having an unusual problem with ppp.
A little background -
At work I have a 24/7 connection with our ISP. During work hours it
is over an ISDN line. Our bean counters didn't want to spend the extra
money for hours over 320, so each evening the ISDN line goes down and
a 56k line comes up. Each morning, Analog down / ISDN up. This is
handled nicely by a cron job.
However, every so often I come in and can not reach the INTERNET. The
only different thing I find is that the PPP link is now on PPP1 instead
of PPP0. I do a KILLALL PPPD then a ppp-go and I have traffic, but
it is still on PPP1.
Questions:
1. Why is it swapping to PPP1? I have looked at the messages file and
see nothing which seems to be a reason.
2. How can I reset it to PPP0 without rebooting the machine?
3. Where is the file that controls this so I can make ppp-off kill
the correct process?
TIA
