In order to set up samba you need to be running tcp/ip, I am not sure what
you mean by peer to peer, as in what protocal are you going to be running?
however if you need to set up a local tci/ip network you can do it using
the 192.168 network this is a no routable subnet as defined by rfc#159Once
this is done and the machines can ping each other you will need to set up
samba. To ansewer the question about the partitions, samab can use any
tyupe of partition, however I would not suggest using anything other than
ext2, windows doesn't know what's on the other end it doesn't care samba
takes care of that for you. If you look at the /etc/smb.conf you find that
there is alot if comments in there read thru that and it's pretty easy to
figure out what you need and don't need, however the one thing I have
found that is usually not in the sample conifg is the "force create mode"
and the "force dir mode" you can check these out in the samba man page.
That should be enough to get you started,
Oh, one other note you may want to edit the C;\windows\host.sam to reflect
the IP of the samba server, (It's just like the /etc/hosts on a Linux box)
and save it as C:\windows\hosts
Cool

With samba, can I make the linux box visible to the 98 boxes on the peer to peer LAN? If so, can I set it up so that they can store their backup files on the linux box? Will the partition have to be fat32 or will samba hide extfs2 from the 98 boxes?
