Depends on the quality you want. I've done this with a vcr and my
capture card, but it does not generate smooth video. I really don't
know how high a frame rate you can capture with these things. There's a
video on Linux mailing list, I'll drop you the subscribe info if you're
interested.
If it's a very long video, it could well be huge, therefore you would
probably want to go with some streaming format.
