Hi,
A while back (three weeks?) I had a conversation with someone who
said Netscape munged their termcap and they had to reboot. I
said, Phaw! No way. Impossible! Then, about a week or so ago,
I had something similar happen to me. Actually, it was GNOME
related. Somehow, when I installed a newer version of netscape
under a somewhat experimental version of GNOME, and netscape
segfaulted and crashed and locked X up tight. When I killed the
Netscape PID (wrapper and pid itself), I couldn't get the fonts
back on the main tty. or on tty2 for that matter. I could
telnet in and get a decent termcap though. All the other ttys
seemed to be "disfonted"; I couldn't read the font at the main
terminal. Typing "reset" at the prompt didn't even work at all.
What can you do at this point short or restarting the system?
