Actually, there is a version of Linux that will run on SGI and other
MIPS-based systems called "Hard Hat":

However, all of these projects appear to be inactive since 1998.
If you stick with IRIX 6.2 on your Indy, check out the free software downloads
at:
http://www.sgi.com/Products/Evaluation
Also, look on www.ebay.com for SGI stuff (click "computers", search for "sgi).
