Last December, the city of Atlanta got $8.1 M from MediaOne to bring
computer technology to the underpriveleged. They set up the Office of
Community Technology and appointed Jabari Simama, PhD as Exec Director.
Does anyone suppose that this could end up subsidising Win98 for those
who couldn't otherwise afford it ? Will the government be bringing
products of the company that discovered the internet in 1995 to
technology centers ?
*** To find out, get yourself invited to a presentation on May 6, by
contacting Dr. Simama's office at 404-817-6909. They say that anyone
can submit a proposal for software, hardware, communications, training,
whatever. There's no formal format. You can try email at
">moct@ci.atlanta.ga.us, but I never received a reply when I asked if the
meetings were open to the public. ***
There's also a presentation at the Hungry Club Forum this Wednesday,
April 26, at Noon. My invitation says to RSVP to 404-659-0915. It's
held at the Butler St. YMCA, 22 Butler St., Downtown Atlanta.
