Finally decided to get full blown into Linux use. Been dabbling for
about a year now and can finally justify a low end file server at work.
50 clients storing minimal files. But enough to prove its use. Right
now I am running Redhat 5.2 on Pentium 100, 40 mb's of ram. temporarily
residing on a 6gb drive dual boot with Win95. I know, I know, save the
comments. It's just me using it right now. This is networked running
stock Samba.
Now it's question time. I am attempting to recompile the kernel to
get rid of some of the overhead and unneeded options. I get through ok
up to running make bZimage at which time I get the following error :
make[1]: as86: Command not found
make[1]: *** [bbootsect.o] Error 127
make[1]: Leaving directory /usr/src/linux-2.0.36/arch/i386/boot
make: *** [bzImage] Error 2
I'm not sure what this means or how to correct it. I've read the
kernel HOWTO but either missed the section where it describes this or I
am blind, not really sure at times. I know I am running an older
version but would like to start here and work my way up.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
TIA,
Ryan
