I've been doing some research on this thing, and I've found out that the

two partitions I was having problems with overlap (fdisk option 'v'). 

Fortunately, the last partition was empty, so I removed it and recreated

it.

This is definitely a bug in the Mandrake 7.0 partition package.  I used

it to create the partitions.  All I did was define the size of the

partitions, not the start/end points.

This certainly is not good.
