Usually your cable/dsl provider will have a very large file (15-20 megs)
on their ftp server just for this purpose. MediaOne has one at:
ftp://stftp01.atl.mediaone.net/test/fifteenmegfile.exe
Additionally you can find other bandwidth test programs at

or
