You would be correct regarding the compiler.  I also tried to compile a

kernel, and that too, bombed.  I looked around and found that gcc was a

link to pgcc, which I have concluded is Pentium Gnu CC, but I have got to

wonder why Mandrake didn't leave well enough alone that which worked

before they messed with it.

Anyway, pgcc is getting ripped out and replaced with gcc at my earliest

convenience.
