Right, a second Matrox card would work just fine. My problem is getting
the second output on the single G400 MAX card to work. Apparently the
G400 has two CRTC's that share one drawing engine, which is a fairly
unique configuration.
I did get the kernel's fbcon driver to initialize both heads (it
explicitly supports this). Now I can get framebuffer text consoles on
both. However, X takes over the card when it initializes and disables
the second output.
