In case any of you install Heavy Gear 2 from Loki. You may get an
error when starting it up.
The two causes we found so far were:
1) Using the GUI installer did not give an option to install the
required 3DFX Mesa Drivers. However, the text bas installer did.
2) Not having Mode Lines installed in the XF86Config file for
resolutions supported in the game causes it to bomb out after the intro
video ( a really awesome mini movie by the way ). With a error message
claiming it could not initialize the video mode. No kidding right?
Anyway running XF86Config ( using Mandrake here ) and selecting multiple
video resolutions ( 640x480, 800x600, 1024x768, 1280x1024 and 1600x1200
) in 16 bit color depth resolved the issues. XF86Setup on the other
hand refused to configure more than one resolution.
I can say that this game is awesome, a must own if you like First
Person Shooters, in many ways it seems better than Quake III ( Blasphemy
I know ).
