Recent presenters at the Atlanta Unix Users Group were from IBM and their
topic was "IBM's Linux Stragety" [!]. They claimed to trust statistics
projecting Linux as _the_ growth area for servers, i.e. Microsoft was
growing at the same rate as the installed market while Linux was growing
much faster. They were attracted both by the projected installation rate,
and the fact that they wouldn't have to compete with products from Redmond
on those platforms (for Lotus- and IBM-branded enterprise products).
Their link is: http://www.ibm.com/linux>, if you can believe it. I didnt'
dig down to see if they posted their (third party) market studies.
Naturally the market will have to respond for IBM to stay interested.
