I ran into the same issue, but when trying to
convert my outlook-archived mail to a good ole
berkley mail format. As there isn't any good
way to export mail in a useful manner from
outlook, I wound up setting up an imap server
and moving my mail across. This worked, but
unfortunately the damn thing converted every
attachment I had to winmail.dat -- seemingly a
last ditch effort on outlook's behalf to thrwart
my escape.
In my search for a remedy, I found the following
