I have a machine running RH 6.0 (JUPITER) and when I try to connect to it
from Windows using X-Win32 using the XDMCP Broadcast method, I see in the
popup window "jupiter.niit.com (willing to manage)". I can connect to it
and all is right with the world.
I have another machine (SATURN) that used to run RH 6.0 and it would behave
the same way. But now, SATURN runs RH 6.2 and it no longer responds to
XDMCP broadcasts.
I should point out that both SATURN and JUPITER are set up to run at
runlevel 5. On JUPITER, xdm does not appear to be running and xhost doesn't
seem to restrict access. Watch:
[root@jupiter /root]# xhost
access control enabled, only authorized clients can connect
INET:jupiter
[root@jupiter /root]# ps -aux | grep xdm
root 9228 0.0 1.2 1148 396 ttyp0 S 08:24 0:00 grep xdm
Did something change for RH 6.2 such that X-connecting by XDMCP doesn't work
out of the box anymore? Perhaps a larger questions should be: SHOULD I be
trying to connect to my Intranet Linux boxes this way, or should I be doing
it the more conventional way?
