I've had good luck so far just runnin OpenLDAP to authenticate
accounts for about a dozen servers... The servers themselves are on two
LANs seperated via an encrypted VPN tunnel... We have the Master LDAP
server on the primary LAN along with a slave backup and then another
replicated slave on the other side of the tunnel... Aside from network
problems by the provider on the one side (*cough*Bellsouth*cough*) we've
not had any problems with the LDAP authentication... For each server
we merely install'd nscd, libnss-ldap, libpam-ldap and modified the PAM
config files as needed...
