All the good LDAP books are pretty platform neutral that I've seen.

You should probably head over to www.openldap.org and go through their

faq-o-matic.  It is pretty good and has links to clients that will

work under Linux.  OpenLDAP is a great server to start with and probably

will meet most of your LDAP needs.

If you want a v3 server for Linux, you will probably be forced down

the iPlanet (Netscape) route (OpenLDAP 2.0 is still in alpha and has

some v3 problems).  The iPlanet server is, at best, o.k. in my book.

The Java admin GUI is flaky, and the server immediately forks around

100 processes, 50 of which seem to be for the admin part.

Oracle claims to be porting OID to Linux in about 6 months.
