This sounds like my experience with TurbLinux Server!
I am under the impression it's totally hardware related even though logic
has no part in this. I installed Turbo Server on a Compaq 'server' at work
(actually 3 servers) and the shit went as smooth as a babie's bottom. I
bring it home to install in on a homekit 'server' and the shit bombs like 3
times with different stupid errors about various files missing and severeal
dep issues.
