Thought I'd share my experiences with installing Mandrake 7.0.2. I
attempted to install it 4 times. The first, I starting getting error
messages indicating that various functions were not found. It cycled
through these messages to the point that I had to reboot. Second and
third attempts I received the same useless message, some obscur message
in a popup window regarding an invalid character. Each of these I was
able to select the exitinstall option. Fourth try, install was
completed properly.
I just now fired up control-panel on this machine and selected the
network configuration option. I had opened control-panel from an xterm,
and I received an error there 'python not found.' So, no network
configuration. Sure enough, python is not installed, so they must have
screwed up dependencies here. rpm -qa|grep python yields:
python-devel-1.5.2-3mdk
pythonlib-1.23-1mdk
postgresql-python-6.5.2-2mdk
python-docs-1.5.2-3mdk
So it appears that everything for python is installed, but the core rpm
for the language... Installing python, resolves this problem.
It's unlikely that I will use 7.0.2 when I finally upgrade, but it's
been interesting attempting this process.

I'm afraid there will be more problems with W2K than there were with
Y2K...
