Maybe you could clarify:
Do you actually want to know what a person typing/viewing? Or are you
interested in what programs they are running? Do you wish to help a
user by demonstrating what do to but do this remotely by forwarding a
visual of your lesson to a user's screen? It has been awhile since I
have delved into RedHat but the dot files in your home directory for
your X setup is where to put the stuff concerning xhost. I was know
that "xauth" does not allow xhost to override and requires the
MIT-MagicCookie key to be transferred. I know RedHat 5.1 came with
this behavior by default. If you can use xhost then you only have
host authorization, so that any user on any authorized host can put
windows on your display. Xauth is better in that it is user based, so
without the key transferral between sessions, no window display can
take place. Sorry to divert the topic onto authorization methods, but
I wanted to alert you to the security risk. SSH-agent, a part of the
SSH package can manage these keys so that as you ssh between machines
the Xwindows authorization takes place in the background. You provide
the keys upon login and the agent takes over from there. With the
xhost type authorization you should be able to forward your window,
say an xterm, to another machines display just by setting the DISPLAY
flag when starting the xterm:
xterm -display aslan.kennesaw.edu:0.0
If Aslan will allow the display, then the user should see the xterm
window. My question at this point is how do you send the information,
the help for the user, to the window? Use the "write" command? Or
start the xterm with a preset help text file?
