My thanks for the suggestions. I am not much of a code writer - I normally get
systems to work using other people's code.
What I think is needed here for the long term is a mod to pppd that would allow one to
put a route in the options file that, upon connection, would be inserted in the system
route file. This is probably a good bit of work and well above my head.
