Are you using an ata66 cable or an ata33 cable?  Is it connected to an

ata66 ide?

I made some more phone calls.  Talked to a Western Digital tech and a

couple of local folks about this.  I then called Maxtor back and got a

different story from another tech.  After I told him what I was told

before, he forwarded me to a 'Senior' tech.

All verified the following:

I should not have a problem running the two drives together, on the same

ide interface.

They all pretty much agreed that running the ata66 with an ata33 was

going to slow the ata66 down, regardless of the interface.

They all pretty much agreed that a hard drive will slow down when

coupled with a cdrom.

So, I'm going to return my ata66 controller card and put my ata66 drive

on my mb ide as primary/master.  We'll see how it goes.
