Ale'rs:
Just finished having BS's PC-Data (IFDSL) installed and an initial
download of an ISO from ftp.cc.gatech.edu sustained a 54KB/s
average throughput so I am very pleased so far. To-night I will be
attempting to transition the connection over to my Linux firewall.
While the technician was installing the circuit, I discovered a few
things that differed from what I was told/heard before actual
installtion:
The connection is NOT tied to the MAC address of the connection
The security on the connection relies on the userid/password pair
Bellsouth WILL NOT assign a static IP, instead relying on PPPoE
Bellsouth does not want their users building VPN's over the
connection, hence the dynamic IP stuff
LINUX is "supported" via the NetPOET CD I was given. I have not had
time to look at it, however right on the disk it claims to have a
Linux client/driver (according to the label)
My question:
Has anyone on this list installed the PC-Data service and used it with Linux successfully? Any pointers?
Mike
