It depends!
On my Thinkpad, I have to add "append=128M" for it to recognize
the extra RAM. On my desktop, I don't have to. Both use kernel
2.2.14.

I think this is only true for older (2.0, IIRC) kernels.
I'm running 2.2.14 on a box with 128M and don't have anything in my
lilo.conf.
