Here's the rest of my misadventures with Red Hat 5.1 and Partition Magic 5
(see my previous post to J. Reeves Hall), only this time I'm wondering if
anyone can help *save* me from my no-backup dumbness:
My intent was to rebuild an old dual boot Win95-RH 5.1 hd with PM5 to nuke
away the Win95 and give the space to Linux. Did so, afterwhich, I got the
infamous 'L-I' at boot. Put in the RH 5.1 boot disk I had (never used,
either, so I am unfamiliar with it), it finds the resized and moved
partitions correctly (I think!), so I want to try mounting '/' et al to edit
lilo.conf and rerun lilo to get rid of the Win95 default boot. But I get
'unable to open initial console' with the boot disk and it quits there. What
param(s) might I feed the Linux boot kernel to get around this?
Yes, two compunded mistakes were made here but a lesson in disaster recovery
was driven home!
Thanks.
