Oh, I forgot to mention the first week we had the Exchange server.
The darn thing started rebooting itself. It would get in an endless
loop and couldn't ever get past the login screen. I don't know why it
did this. I replaced almost every piece of equipment in the server.
The only thing I didn't replace was the case. I had to reformat/reinstall
about 6 times before I could get the thing to work properly. Luckily I
had a backup of the current email database. If you are forced to go with
Exchange, make sure you have a disaster recovery plan. I have had to
use mine twice now. I don't know if this is a hardware issue. As I stated,
I couldn't find a problem with any hardware.
Another thing, you have to be careful when you set up your server. With
the Internet Mail Connector, everything has a SMTP address. This means
any public folders, etc. Somebody could flood your system if they know
you have your folders setup as something@somecompany.com.
Did I mention viri :) I can't wait for the day that these script kiddies
get bored
with this junk. What ever happened to the good ol' days of assembly
language
viri. Oh I remember my first virus from the EE computer lab at GaTech. But
I
digress (or is that regress).
