Sorry \'bout my [in]artistic efforts. &;^)
This looks very similar to the problem when you try to use two ribbon
cables end-to-end: the connections are pair-wise reversed. You have the
same problem if you flip a two-row header over and connect to it from the
back side of the PWB. My suggestion is: take one more simple ribbon cable
and put a simple two-row header into one of its connectors, turning
\'female\' into \'male\' and effectively \"flipping\" the configuration 180Deg
(when viewed from the edge of the cable). You plug this into the original
ribbon cable and the connections at the far end should be right-way-round.
One face of the typical header will have shorter pins, but if I\'m not
dealing with vibration, they\'ve worked for me - particularly since I don\'t
do this where they\'ll undergo many unplug/plug cycles. A bit of glue will
secure the header\'s spacer strip to the connector\'s shell if you\'re the
cautious type, or you may find a header with long pins top and bottom.
It sounds kind of crazy, but the geometry is as if you had come off the
other face of the mother board. That looks right for the drawing on
Linux-Hacker\'s page.
The price is right, and so is the time required!
