The server names for email are:
Pop server: pop.atl.mediaone.net
Smtp servser: mail.atl.mediaone.net
The technician should have given you an email name (usually your first and
last name with no space between) and a default password (usually the last
four digits of your phone number).
If he didn't give you this information, you can always call media one and
ask for it.

Subject: [ale] Cable modem hooked up
I got my cable modem hooked up on Saturday. Considering that I
ordered it Tuesday from Media One, I consider that pretty fast.
They gave me little grief about linux. I told the installer that I
wanted to tell him my MAC address and that otherwise he should leave
me alone, and he did. He did say "Linux. We don't support that."
But otherwise was fine. I had to tell him my RAM size and the
interrupt of the NIC card, but fortunately, that is easy to find under
Linux.
I'm using my 486DX4-100 laptop as a router and it works great.
Forsome reason, the network got really slow Sunday night between 11
and 12, but otherwise it has been great.
Now I have to figure out how to use my account. The tech would have
set things up for me with MS Express, but you can imagine my reaction
to that! Anyone have hints?
