        The practicality of a large boot disk IMHO. Most bootable CD's

don't offer a lot of flexability for crash recovering a system, and

*definately* not for running a standalone system.

        I think an ALE "Bootable CD"  would be a cool idea indeed.

Personally, I tink a "slam dunk" kind of CD to distribute to more of

"common folk" would be a CD which does as follows:

        1. Boot into Linux.

        2. Automagically start into X.

        3. Prompt user with five icons:

                1. "Setup"

                2. Dial the internet.

                3. Netscape.

                4. Xterm

                5. Shutdown 

        "Setup" would have the following options:

                1. Load Default Settings.

                2. Load settings from floppy disk.

                3. Save settings to floppy disk.

                4. Configure modem.

                5. Configure X Windows.

                6. Dial-Up settings.

        ... Upon booting off of the CD, the user will be prompted to place

their "configuration" floppy in the floppy drive (if they have one) or

just press enter to continue. The basic premesis of this CD being to

enable just about anyone to get onto the internet, even if the resolution

sucks. I don't know about ya'll, but usually when I need a disk like this,

I also need to get onto the net. Of course, if we geared this CD for

ALE'ers, we could have folks submit scripts which enable one to easily

connect to the ISP's of our area. A must have option would still be a

"manual script" though...
