I came across http://www.javaradio.com/> which provided web-distribution
of short-wave radio in 'Real Audio' format. The site no longer transmits
actively, but you can find links to other sites, and some technical info
there.
Basically, the developer wrote Java applets to run an Icom ic-pcr1000
radio remotely (Linux, yeah), translated the audio output to R-A (MS-Win,
boo), and piped the results out the net (Linux, yeah).
Might give you some ideas, anyway.
