Hmm... Works as advertised for me. Maybe your /etc/syslog.conf
is not configured to log messages of priority "user/notice" anywhere?

I really want to use the command 'logger' to make entries in
/var/log/messages, but if I type 'logger -s Blah' I get "logger: Blah" back
from standard error due to the '-s', but the entry doesn't appear anywhere
