I have a winmodem, and it IS supported by the vendor for Linux. Check at
http://linmodems.org for their latest efforts. Also, check with the modem
vendor. Sometime they have the driver, but are afraid to publish that
fact, for fear of upsetting Micro$oft...
OBTW my winmodem is from Lucent Technologies...
