I'm at about the same place - house almost done - DSL or Charter
Communications Cable Modem.

At our old house, we had two lines - phone and modem. On the phone line I
could get 53K connections, on the modem one, 26.4K. When I called
BellSouth trying to get this cleared up and fixed, I was told "The FCC
mandates that we only have to support up to 19.2K on data connections."
I think as long as the cable modem doesn't REALLY REALLY REALLY suck, I'd
stick with them just to avoid BellSouth as much as possible. Their DSL
may be great, but after dealing with them before, I don't want them to
have any more of my money than need be.
